THE BODY THAT BREATHES
The Body that Breathes is an installative performance that explores physicality, movement, and vibration to create a multisensory experience for both deaf and hearing audiences.
Violinist and conceptual artist Jane Hackett draws on experimental performance practices inspired by the Fluxus movement and the work of contemporary Irish artists Natasha Bourke, Andy Ingamells, and George Higgs. Through improvisation, contemporary Fluxus-inspired actions, interactive installations, and a newly commissioned piece by a hearing-impaired Irish composer, the performance opens up new ways of experiencing sound and silence.
Audiences are invited to interact with the installation—feeling deeper frequencies through the vibration of balloons, or, for hearing spectators, shifting their listening perspective by using earplugs provided in the space. In this way, The Body that Breathes offers each visitor a unique journey, encouraging them to engage their senses in unexpected ways.
