Curatorial Statement & Code of Conduct

A commitment to artistic vision, community care, and cultural responsibility

What We Believe

TAKT Kulturverein is an independent, Vienna-based platform for transdisciplinary performing arts, contemporary music, and experimental formats. From the beginning, we’ve understood art not as a product to be consumed, but as a living, breathing process of connection, dialogue, and disruption. Our work emerges from a desire to challenge conventional boundaries — between genres, disciplines, and audiences — and to create shared experiences that are bold, inclusive, and deeply human.

We believe that art is essential. It opens up space for emotional intelligence, collective imagination, and social transformation. It offers not just reflection, but real participation in the complexity of the world around us. TAKT exists to support this kind of art — art that listens, that experiments, that engages critically with the present while imagining more generous futures.

Our performances often blur the line between stage and audience, classical and contemporary, aesthetic and political. We curate work that is process-driven, hybrid in format, and artistically ambitious — always guided by a sense of curiosity, risk, and care.

How We Work Together

TAKT is artist-led and collaboration-centered. The way we work is just as important as what we present. We believe in flat hierarchies, honest dialogue, and shared responsibility. Everyone involved in our productions — artists, curators, technicians, producers, audience members — plays a vital role in shaping the space.

We believe that different artistic disciplines don’t need to stand apart — they belong together. One form of art enriches the other. A performance becomes more resonant when music meets movement, when text enters space, when light and sound respond to each other. This symbiosis is at the core of how we create.

Our productions grow through collaboration. We foster working environments that are respectful, transparent, and emotionally sustainable. The process matters to us: how we build, how we communicate, how we take care of each other.

Our community includes people from diverse backgrounds, disciplines, and experiences. We recognize this as a strength. It’s why we commit ourselves to making our spaces as accessible and welcoming as possible. When something isn’t working — we want to know. Communication is central to our practice, and we treat critique as an act of care.

Our Code of Conduct

TAKT stands for equity, access, and anti-discrimination. We are committed to creating environments where everyone — regardless of race, gender identity, sexuality, disability, socioeconomic background, or nationality — feels welcome, safe, and empowered to contribute.

Discrimination, harassment, and abuse of any kind are not tolerated. This applies both onstage and off. We actively work to unlearn systemic patterns of exclusion and to cultivate a cultural space where care, accountability, and dialogue are prioritized over silence or avoidance.

We are queer-affirming, body-positive, and deeply committed to inclusivity. We understand that accessibility is not a checkbox — it’s an ongoing practice. And we know that cultural spaces must be as reflective and dynamic as the communities they serve.

TAKT is a space where we protect each other — and where we take responsibility when harm is caused.

Respect is not just a value — it’s an active, lived behavior.

What We Stand For Artistically

TAKT’s curatorial vision is rooted in experimentation, dialogue, and artistic hybridity. We are drawn to works that are porous — where one discipline opens onto another, where music feeds into movement, where language lives through sound, where bodies and instruments speak in the same breath.

We believe that art forms do not compete — they strengthen each other. The merging of disciplines is not dilution; it’s amplification. Each artistic voice brings something vital to the collective experience. This belief shapes the way we program, the artists we work with, and the kinds of spaces we seek to create.

Our interest lies in processes — not just polished results. We champion works that are bold, thoughtful, and politically aware. Works that offer space for discomfort, intimacy, and transformation. We want our audiences to feel — not just to watch or listen. And we want our stages to be places where risk is not only allowed, but celebrated.

We collaborate with artists whose practices are fluid, rigorous, and open-ended. We center emerging voices, intersectional perspectives, and experimental formats that challenge the standard rhythms of cultural production. Our events are more than performances — they are invitations to reimagine how art can live in the world.

A Living Practice

TAKT is built by people who care — about each other, about the world, and about what art can do. We’re not perfect, but we show up with integrity, curiosity, and the will to keep learning. Our values are lived in the daily decisions we make. This manifesto is not a fixed rulebook — it’s a reflection of our ongoing intentions, shaped by the people who make TAKT what it is. Every project is a chance to grow, to listen better, and to do things with more care.

We don’t have all the answers — but we’re committed to asking the right questions, staying open, and evolving together with care, courage, and curiosity.
